05 Jul Kings Island to add new wooden roller coaster by Great Coasters International
There has been much speculation since April about what exactly #KIProject2017 would be for Kings Island. Many guests and members of the news media speculated the project would turn out to be a new roller coaster, and tonight, they were given an answer.
Kings Island announced at a press event held in the Rivertown area of the park that #KIProject2017 will be a wooden roller coaster built by Great Coasters International (GCI).
The ride, named Mystic Timbers, is themed to the area surrounding a lumber company becoming overrun by a mysterious medusa-like overgrowth of vines as nature moves in and reclaims its land. Mystic Timbers will stand 109 feet at its highest point and riders will weave along 3,265 feet of track at speeds up to 53 mph along steep cliffs, down ravines, over water and through an extreme S-turn, in a densely-wooded area. It will be non-stop action for riders from start to finish.
While what's happening in the woods of Rivertown is now known, there's still one mystery remaining: What's in the shed near the end of the ride? Kings Island fans, roller coaster enthusiasts and members of the news media will have to wait until spring to find out!
